Commenced in 2005, the CAPA full time course in Contemporary Dance and Theatre Studies prepares students to cope with all aspects of the professional world, both physically and mentally, but above all, manages to maintain a standard of excellence second to no other institution in South Africa. Students on this program have the added benefit of working with guest artists from the industry on a regular basis. Graduates of this school are currently working most successfully in the industry both nationally and internationally. Dane met Artistic Director, Debbie Turner in London 2014 and was subsequently invited to spend a week with the company in Cape Town. The 5 allocated sessions lasted 3hrs each, culminating with a 15min sharing at the end of the week. It was a challenge to work with and create a choreography for 31 students but the resulting work was quite a dynamic and layered ensemble piece that stretched both myself and the dancers. MAP looks forward to collaborating with CAPA in future.

“Dane Hurst mentoring us was such a refreshing experience as he pushed us to places we’ve never been before in our dance training. The week spent with him in the studio was such an incredible learning experience and his calm, inspiring energy made us want to work even harder.” (Vuyo Mahashe)

“I’ve been part of a lot of workshops and although I always feel like I’ve walked out as a more knowledgeable dancer, very few inspire me, Dane Hurst’s workshop was the one exception – the reason his appealed so much to me, was because he allowed us to add our own individuality into the work , making us feel like we were a part of the creative process. It is evident in the way that he teaches, dances and talks, that he loves what he does and sadly, that is very contagious energy and you can’t help but enjoy every minute – what a wonderful workshop.” (Cesca Van Oudtshoorn)
