AMAPHIKO TOWNSHIP DANCE PROJECT

MAP delivered a week of dance and choreography workshops at the Amaphiko Township Dance Project in Grahamstown, working with 22 students leading to an informal sharing for members of the community. It was fantastic to work with these students as they showed an incredible discipline towards their practice and were incredibly quick to pick up most of the dance routines and exercises. It was a joy to work with them and we look forward to extending our programme with them in future years.

ABOUT AMAPHIKO

Amaphiko provides an ongoing, empowering, disciplined and exciting creative and physical outlet for children, mostly girls, in vulnerable circumstances. All dancers are prepared and entered in the annual International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), exams in November. The school regularly achieves 100% pass rates and some dancers have proceeded to university education in the disciplines of arts and science, as a direct result of the Whole Child Development programme which has been able to offer dance as a National Senior Certificate subject in school, alongside providing senior dancers teaching and learning assistance with maths and English.
